The Terrestrial Laser Scanner is a LIDAR (Light Imaging Detection and Ranging) unit that has been mounted on a standard survey tripod. Once the unit is set up on the tripod in the correct location, the laser scans the desired object at a very fast rate (approximately 2,000 measurements per second), creating millions of X, Y, Z data points of the desired object. These data points are referred to as a “Point Cloud” and these points can be processed into a very accurate drawing file for use in planning, designing, and many other uses.
